Diane says: “Didn’t John Sayles’ movies used to be good? Especially after seeing MARIA FULL OF GRACE, this pic dealing
with undocumented laborers is bad. It looks bad. The script is bad. Exposition is belabored (even going so far as to have a character read off of a Web site), shots of convos that cut from one person to the other (what is that called?) are excessive–was the lead actor shooting another movie at the time? Part parody, part earnest expose, this movie doesn’t cut it. Specifically (SLIGHT SPOILER), compare Maria paying to have her friend’s body shipped home to Danny O’Brien making the same act: powerful vs. feeble. 1 solid cat.
