| Diane says: “RIZE, a docu by David LaChapelle about clowns and krumpers in South Central LA, lets the subjects speak for themselves. Both groups (who have a formal showdown at the end of the film) employ a fast and furious style of dancing that LaChapelle enjoys filming. The related subcultures provide alternatives to gangs, focussing energy and competition, bringing belonging and respect. The movie is not as good as its subject, lacking depth and characterization, and I was falling asleep from boredom. 2 cats.” |
