Kyle says: “If you’ve been longing for a movie about rape and revenge, this one is for you. I extend my apologies for allowing my impatience with films like this to repeating IMDB ‘Plot Keywords’ instead of venting purple prose about how much I hate sitting through worthless shit like this, and lamenting the wasted time and talent of all the good actors listed above: beating, rape victim, rapist, prison, rape and revenge. If that list feels insufficient, you can add in a few others, such as prison visit, poison, antifreeze, flirting, hospital, dog, female nudity, and male nudity.
“So for the record, nurse Miranda (Rosamund Pike) is understandably completely traumatized, manifested in employment difficulties, dealings with local citizens, and her inability to plant roses, decorate cakes, or play mindless games. She commences correspondence with rapist William Finn (Shiloh Fernandez) in jail, all of whose letters are returned to sender, until one is delivered with ‘You win’ scrawled on the back of the envelope. She then embarks upon 57-minute drives each way for repeated visits to the correctional facility, conducted by telephone through glass partitions. She forms a questionable friendship with her father’s difficult German shepherd, works on a troubled father-daughter relationship with Mitchell (Nick Nolte), and hires paroled convict William to work on the renovation of the house she has been unable to sell. If you think this is a story of redemption and reconciliation, there are so many bad movies you have not yet seen, including multiple versions of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. 1 cat
