Michael says: “This cult classic was released in 1984 integrating elements of punk culture, government-hidden science fiction, and urban crime to create a clever, irreverent and fun film. I suspect if I had seen it in the mid-80’s around its release, I would have really loved it. Looking back, I see it’s appeal, and enjoyed it quite a bit, but see the flaws as well. The film revolves around Otto, a punk-wannabe, who’s looking for a get-rich-quick scenario. He has a falling-out with his friends, a band of punks, and ends up being recruited by Bud to be a repo man… part of a loose company that repossesses cars from those who can no longer pay for them. When Otto becomes entangled in Leila’s life, he also finds himself involved with some weird government agents, and a hunt for one particular car, around which strange things are happening. Add some visitors from outer space into the mix, and you’ve got one wild ride.

“At first I had some difficulty with Emilio Estevez in the role of Otto. He didn’t seem rough and punk enough for the part, and seemed instead to come across like someone playing a wannabe punk. Of course, that’s actually exactly what Otto is. He talks tough, but he’s actually in way over his head, and Estevez’ pretty-boy masquerading as a tough punk makes more sense. Perfect in the role of Bud, of course, is Harry Dean Stanton. already proven to be a welcome presence in such films as ALIEN, THE ROSE, PRIVATE BENJAMIN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, and CHRISTINE. The special effects are cheesy, but fun, and I’m glad I finally caught up with this one. 3 1/2 cats
