Thom says: “I should have been wary knowing that Michael Mann’s previous film was the wretched MIAMI VICE, but even knowing that, this was far worse than I imagined considering the talented cast. Christian Bale (usually top-notch) was totally a sea in his underwritten G-man part, in hot pursuit of the notorious John Dillinger as played laconically by Depp. Sure, we get to see characterizations of Pretty Boy Floyd & Baby Face Nelson but once again these parts are all romanticized & for this viewer the romanticizing of gangsters is way overdone. The film went on far too long while offering no insight or even interest for the viewer. Recent Oscar winner Cotillard does well enough in a thankless role, Dillinger’s dumb moll. Please pass… 1 cat ”
