Brett says: “When viewing OUT OF BLUE, it’s difficult to believe one is not seeing the film on a low-rate cable channel instead of the big screen. I expected big things out of Patricia Clarkson as a detective unraveling a mystery wrapped up in the cosmos in this one, but it is apparent that it must have taken an extra effort for director Carol Morley to dismantle such a formidable actor in this way. This film is actually a bit painful to watch at times as it gets so caught up in its own drivel, and I actually felt a little sympathy for a director that just couldn’t seem to find her way. More of a mystery than what’s at hand in the script of the film is how Patricia Clarkson ever got roped into this disastrous role and put her reputation on the line. It was difficult to believe at times that Clarkson has had successful appearance in other films in the past because of how amateur the portrayal of her character played out. It actually felt more like an student film that was overreaching and just had a healthy budget to play around with.”
