Diane says: “What a fun movie! One doesn’t have to be a fan of–or even seen! (confidentially, I don’t recall ever seeing it)–Godard’s 1959 BREATHLESS to enjoy and be educated by this re-creation of ‘the making of.’ Helmer Richard Linklater masterfully weaves on-set moments, Godard’s iconoclastic methods, and the politics behind his first feature film in the French New Wave. Conviviality, competition, frustration, and for us, cinematic history. Characters include Bresson, Rossellini, Truffaut, Cocteau… My fave was his DP Raoul Coutard, who gamely applied his experience as a war photographer in Vietnam. Super cast. I’ll just assume that everything I saw really happened, and be happy with that. 4 cats.
