Hilary says: “Just a few words on MUNICH:
“I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Spielberg actually redeems himself as a filmmaker, not just a blockbuster-izer, up until the last 10 minutes when he takes out his Significance Club to bludgeon the audience.
“The film owes much to its cast, anchored by Eric Bana (if you’re not squeamish, rent CHOPPER) as the leader of the group avenging the deaths of the Israeli Olympians.
“Mathieu Almaric (current Best Actor nom for KINGS & QUEEN), channeling Polanski from the Sharon Tate era, has a sizable supporting role; Mathieu Kassovitz (AMELIE) is the ‘toys’ expert on Bana’s team; and the new Bond, Daniel Craig, nearly distracts from the seriousness of the film looking like the second coming of Steve McQueen.”
Marilyn responds: “I like your description of Daniel Craig. I felt something was off but couldn’t put my finger on it except that everyone else was dark hair, dark eyes and he didn’t fit…..definitely a Steve McQueen look alike. The film is much better than its press and it is being overlooked or outplayed by better marketing for other films. Eric Bana is guite good, again better than others being pushed by huge very successful marketing campaigns.”
