Laks says: “I was able to soak up two major works that commemorated towering American women that were released in 2024. The first being Laurie Anderson’s AMELIA which was based on the life of Amelia Earhart. The other being Ellen Kuras’ LEE. Kate Winslet delivered an astonishing performance as Lee Miller along with a great cast and spectacular cinematography. I found the first half of the film somewhat underwhelming as I was hoping for a focus on Lee’s work previous to being a war correspondent and her personal experiences through the course of the war and it felt rather rushed through towards the second half of the film. It’s an important film that reminds us of the horrors of war and Lee Miller’s courageous and compassionate work. Like Miller’s bathtub photo, who will take the next photo on the golden toilet when this mess is over? 3.5 Cats
“p.s. Kirsten Dunst was remarkable in her fictional role named after Lee Miller in Alex Garland’s Civil War which I rate as 4 Cats“
