Thom says: “Directors Berman & Pulcini have a good track record with AMERICAN SPLENDOR, THE NANNIE DIARIES, & THE EXTRA MAN all worth checking out and while this film registers more of a sit-com script it still offers a bellyful of laughs and amusingly ditzy characters. Imogene (Wiig in usual performance mode) has just lost her job as well as her fiance. She fakes a suicide attempt to win him back (as if this would ever work) but is released to the custody of her gambling-addicted mother (an hilarious Bening) who lives with her supposed-C.I.A. agent lover (Dillon always walks through his roles), her autistic son, and a darling, young, male border (Criss from ‘Glee’ in his first featured role, scores heavily) who slowly is bewitched by too-wacky Imogene as scene after funny scene roles by. It was only my antipathy to Imogene that dragged my rating down. 3.5 cats
