Thom says: “This was far and away the best Canadian film I saw at TIFF. A very black comedy featuring extraordinarily peculiar characters, I was hooked on this from the get-go. Thurier made quite the impression with his earlier film MALE FANTASY which I ended up seeing after my return from Toronto. The earlier film, while only good, shows his promise of capturing unlikely personages. This film is about a couple having a dinner party with another couple and the hubby of the dinner party hosts goes off ostensibly in search of wine but, in reality, to see his cousin who’s returned to the area. The cousin is absolutely round the bend but somehow persuades the departed host to do one crazy, insane thing after another, involving all sorts of drinking and drug taking. The evening ends in a frenzied, frightening manner with all principles left changed in various, scary ways. If the characters weren’t so wacky this would be a real thriller, but it becomes comedic due to the excellent script and players in the film. 5 cats ”
