Julie says: “FINDING VIVIAN MAIER is an intriguing documentary that takes you on the film maker’s search to piece together the life of Vivian Maier, a prolific photographer who was never recognized in life for her photographs, and who allegedly chose instead to stay under cover as a nanny. There are so many things to love about this movie including the purportedly quirky Vivian, her work and the mystery to be solved.
”My only complaint is that in general I wanted to know more about Vivian. There were a slew of audiotapes recorded by Vivian, none of which made it into the movie (as a for instance). I laughed as I listened (not done listening) to the audiotapes as they gave me a completely different impression of Vivian than what people who knew her conveyed. Also the film footage she took, some of which was used in the movie, was not recognized as wonderful historic footage of Chicago and possibly elsewhere. These are both in the bonus section of the DVD. It’s a must see. I’ll be interested to know what people think of Vivian once they see it. 4.75 cats (definitely will be a nominated doc this year come awards time).”
