Thom says: “For years I’d been reading about the huge best-selling trilogy that topped the sales charts for months on end. Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed were rooted in my consciousness but since I have zero interest in s/m I never imagined I’d suffer through watching this wretched adaptation of the first novel. But with Marcia Gay Harden’s participation I took a chance. What irritated me the most about the film was the sizable budget brought some semblance of legitimacy to the project. So I was praying this would be a financial disaster so the other two books in the trilogy would be quickly forgotten. But, no, it had boffo success so the other two films are almost complete. But my hating of this film is all about the fact that I am unable to understand why anyone would have the desire to punish someone else physically nor can I comprehend why anyone would desire physical punishment from another human. Then to make it titillating & cool is the very essence of repugnance. I’m certain this makes me appear a prude, which I can absolutely say I am not. Anyway, for those living on another planet for the past 5 years the story is about young Anastasia Steele who goes to interview tormented Christian Grey, who is handsome, moody and a billionaire, and has a deep, dark secret but Anastasia can’t help but fall in love. 1/2 cat”
