Bob G. says: “Jeremy Renner takes an almost impossible task — demythologizing serial cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer — and hits it out of the park. He has Dahmer’s blandness, which was his key to remaining undetected for so long, down pat. But there’s a vague hostility and self-hatred bubbling through that rock-hard placidness, and Renner puts us in touch with that so well that it’s hard not to know what is going through his mind… even when he’s NOT overtly emoting (figure that trick out). Framed by fine supporting performances, especially from Artel Kayaru and Matt Newton, DAHMER is probably the most non-conventional serial killer film you’ll see. It weaves multiple flashbacks and storylines in a seemingly random manner, building a jigsaw of a frustrated and lonely kid that is more effective than anything I’ve seen. It’s most significant achievement: it is possible to understand just how Dahmer got from ‘A’ to ‘B,’ if you give it enough of your time and patience (it’s a bit talky in parts). A fine, though not flawless, film that will hopefully open some doors for its remarkable star.” 4 cats
