Philip says: “CLOUDBURST literally bursts on the screen with a powerhouse career-defining performance from 80 year-old Olympia Dukakis. Dukakis and Brenda Flicker (both Academy Award winning actors) play a lesbian couple who’ve been together for 31 years. Fricker’s character, Dot left her husband for Stella (Dukakis). Dot’s daughter made her swear she’d never reveal her secret to her granddaughter who is now fully grown and wanting to put Dot into an assisted living facility in another town. She manages to do just that but of course Stella has other plans. I can’t even begin to describe how funny this film is. Another sold out festival screening. Everyone in the theater was howling through the entire event. In-between there is an amazing story of a love that has survived unbelievable odds and isn’t about to go away. Early on in the film, the girls pick up a young male hitchhiker who becomes a witness to their lives. CLOUDBURST is beautiful, celebratory, crazy fucking hysterical, and full of so much heart and message without becoming preachy. This is the kind of film that’s going to be a huge cult hit once it’s out on video/streaming. People will hear about it through word of mouth. Circles of friends will get together to watch it together. If it had just a smidgen of theater release, Olympia Dukakis would be nominated for another Oscar. What a weekend I had watching two perfect films. I want to own both of them. Better buy extra copies of this. CLOUDBURST is the kind of film friends will borrow and somehow forget to ever return. 5 cats for the Oscar women.”
