Beth says: “This film received low ratings on netflix, rotton tomatoes, and metacritic (~60%). But I really liked it. This film is a about a friendship between two young adult women, Mirit (Neama Shendar) and Smadar (Smadar Sayar), fulfilling their mandatory service in the Israeli army. The film opens with a compelling scene, showing one brave woman standing up for her principles in a sea of conformity/obedience to authority. This theme is important for the rest of the film, but the focus changes to more fully view the relationship between the two women. I found it creative in many ways. There were some especially successful small details (e.g. the purchase of a kewl hat) that help add emotion to the story. Despite a few flaws, I thought the characters were believable and the acting was very good. If it seems a little light in terms of the political message, perhaps the more important element in the film is the friendship between these two women, against the backdrop of learning what their role is in such a politically charged society. 4 cats
