Chris says: “If anything, Nadine Labaki has a talent for coaching great performances from child actors: Zain Al Rafeea, the 12-ish-year-old lead is exceptional for his age, but one-year-old Boluwatife Treasure Bankole nearly goddamn steals the show from him. Loses a few points for repeatedly favoring melodrama over neorealism (would be so much better w/out that score), but this is at least as good as (if tonally nothing like) Labaki’s earlier rom-com CARAMEL. 3.5 cats”
Julie B. says: “Wow. It took a lot to motivate to see this as it looked like it might be very depressing. As Toni put it, it definitely packs a punch. I would give it much more than Chris’s 3.5 rating. It seemed to run a bit long but otherwise well worth the watch. 4.7 cats“
