Jeff says: “Mary Stuart Masterson, in her directorial debut, tells the story of a patriarch (the increasingly crusty Bruce Dern) and his two sons, coming to terms with the death of the family’s mother. Features a pre-Bella Kristen Stewart as a willful girl with a debilitating disease, and she handles the role pretty well. Masterson strives to tell a quintessential ‘indie’ tale, and it shows, she sometimes overstretches a plot point or engages a character in a way that doesn’t quite make sense, but it’s a pleasant story and done well enough that I will look forward to her future work. 3 1/2 cats”
