Philip says: “Revisited the hysterical mockumentary classic, Christopher Guest’s BEST IN SHOW this past weekend. ‘Pine nut… cashew nut… macadamia nut.’ The laughs never end. Jane Lynch had her breakout performance as dog handler Christy Cummings. I’m sure the Glee people spotted Lynch’s insane performance in BEST IN SHOW as a deciding factor for casting her as Sue Sylvester. In addition to Guest and Lynch, ultimate dream cast includes Parker Posey, Michael Hitchcock (‘Go get busybee!’), Catherine O’Hara (Good times… my husband Gerry), Eugene Levy (‘Cccccookkiieee!’), Bob Balaban, Michael McKean, John Michael Higgins, Jennifer Coolidge (‘We both like soup’), Larry Miller, Ed Begley, Jr., Fred Willard, and Jim Piddock. Guest nails the mockumentary genre so perfectly. I could watch this show forever and never tire of it. Hands down the best line of the film – and there are hundreds to choose from continues to be John Michael Higgins’ Scott commenting on Christy’s outfit, ‘she looks like a cocktail waitress on an oil rig.’ Laugh out loud in a literal sense. If you love dogs, love dog shows, love mocking things, love Guest’s genius, you’ll howl repeatedly over the brilliance that is BEST IN SHOW. 5 cats
