Julie says: “Even with Tim Roth and Vicki Krieps, who were both excellent, the story was just so-so and story within story ughh. There was one interesting element near the end that if one blinks they might miss and sort of ties more things together. Still I just felt unfulfilled by the end. Just not worth the watch I felt. 3 cats”
Diane says: “A couple, both filmmakers, arrive on the island of Fårö, Ingmar Bergman’s longtime home, for a conference, a retreat, and inspiration. The husband (Tim Roth–originally John Turturro!) becomes a background figure while the wife (Vicky Krieps of PHANTOM THREAD–originally Greta Gerwig!) takes over our attention. Through her struggles with a screenplay, some tension in the marriage, her utter enjoyment of the island as an explorer, and a frisson of romance with two characters/actors in her film (including one of my faves, Anders Danielsen Lie of OSLO, AUGUST 31ST), we are invited to think about a woman’s options in love and vocation.
