Jeff says: “Zoe (Rose Matafeo) finds out she’s pregnant. It’s the worst possible time; an arborist who co-owns a successful tree service with her partner, Tim (Matthew Lewis), and a no-holds-barred adventurer (in her own mind anyway), she’s training for the International Tree Climbing Championship in Vancouver. So, while Tim, the father, immediately goes all in on fatherhood, Zoe decides she’s just not pregnant. There’s no way that could have happened. Maybe someday, but not now. It has to be something else, probably indigestion.
“Anyone with a modicum of insight into film narrative will immediately understand exactly where Zoe is going to end up. No surprises. But her journey getting there is hilarious, sweet, and, for a movie so intent on being funny, surprisingly touching. Matafeo captures Zoe’s bemusement and consternation, and her interplay with Tim is pitch perfect. Their supporting cast mates, from exasperated friends to a potential romantic rival who fetishizes pregnant women, hit all the right notes. A toe-tapping soundtrack of mostly New Zealand indie bands moves things along. The whole work is quite delightful. 4 cats.”
