Diane says: “Such a great subject—the 90-year-old sex therapist—so the doc is bound to be enjoyable. With Westheimer’s frank manner and tiny frame suffusing the film, the only directorial missteps are some unattractive animation for childhood scenes, paired with narration and music that recalls the Ken Burns method. We learn about Dr. Ruth’s family’s Holocaust story, her early (and very positive) sexual experiences, her rise to fame, and meet her kids and her grandkids.

Chris says: “I may be overrating this a bit, but because its subject is such a goddam delight, I can overlook the somewhat pedestrian construction (and rather creepy animation.) If you’ve forgotten about this formerly ubiquitous pop culture figure, it serves as an adequate and often engaging reminder of her worth.”
