Thom says: “After having some knowledge of Phil Alden Robinson’s work after seeing FIELD OF DREAMS, SNEAKERS, & THE SUM OF ALL FEARS, I still wasn’t certain what to expect. Certainly Robin Williams’s participation edged it into rental territory, so soon after his tragic suicide (perhaps because he lived in my area his death hit me harder than I’d imagined it would), & I adore Melissa Leo. But, here in a morbid coincidence, Henry Altmann (Williams), is told mistakenly that he has 90 minutes to live, which in this case sends him off on an almost madcap race for absolution. The film is adapted from the 1997 Israeli feature THE 92 MINUTES OF MR. BAUM. The film is indeed rather treacly but also sincere and Williams’s brilliant turn helped make the film memorable and sad, although I perversely kept thinking that the fabled actor must have known what he faced personally while filming one of his last films. I’ll miss this talented star that I’ve never heard one single negative thing about. 4 cats
