It went straight to video as THE ADVENTURER: THE CURSE OF THE MIDAS BOX, but if you last until the end titles, you will read that it is called MARIAH MUNDI AND THE MIDAS BOX. Either way, it is a dreary hodgepodge of THE GOLDEN COMPASS, MR. MAGORIUM’S WONDER EMPORIUM, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, a soupçon of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, and just about anything with hidden doors, sliding panels, and ancient dungeons. The plot about a priceless gold box that can only be unlocked with a two-piece amulet that will grant unlimited wealth in gold and power to rule the world is embarrassing to repeat. The waste of acting talent such as Michael Sheen of THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON and MASTERS OF SEX, Sam Neill of RESTORATION and JURASSIC PARK, and Lena Headey of Game of Thrones, is distressing to report. And the actuality of sitting through every last minute of this terrible movie is humiliating to confess. 1 cat
