Welcome to Chlotrudis Film Reviews. Chlotrudis members, being the opinionated lot that they are, are constantly commenting about the films they see. In addition, Chlotrudis members attend many Film Festivals throughout the year. The reviews section of the website collects Chlotrudis members’ comments and reviews of films and festivals for your perusal.
Members’ movie reviews of films eligible for nomination for the Chlotrudis Award have been posted on the website since 2001. Films are eligible if they are produced by studios independent of Hollywood in the calendar year, and distributed nationally with a theatrical release in the Boston area. Films can be distributed by Hollywood studios, as long as the funds for production do not come from those sources. The independent films eligible for Chlotrudis Awards nomination are listed by year. Underlined film titles are linked to member reviews. Some reviews of films that are not-eligible for nomination have also been included. If you have a suggestion, or a film you’d like to see commented on by Chlotrudis Members, contact us.
From time to time the Chlotrudis Society is contacted by filmmakers who ask us to review their work before it has distribution. Sometimes these are films by emerging filmmakers who are just getting started. Other times these are films that are in a rough cut stage, not yet ready for release. Filmmakers like to have audiences preview these films in the early stages so they can tweak them before release. The “rough cut” section of the webpage will feature reviews of such films from Chlotrudis members who have taken part in such a review process.
You can also check out the eligible films page to find out what films are eligible for Chlotrudis consideration during the current year. This page is frequently updated, so if you don’t see a film that you think should be eligible based on the Society’s criteria, please let us know.
