Chris says: “INCIDENT AT LOCH NESS is a clever, often side-splitting little film. The less said about what it’s about, the better. All you need to know is that its lead ‘character’ is the always intriguing Werner Herzog, and it breathes life into a certain tricky genre, revealing a surprising complexity where so many other attempts have fallen flat.”
Diane says: “Those who say that LOCH NESS is WAITING FOR GUFFMAN meets BLAIR WITCH PROJECT are right on. Zak Penn’s documocky of Hollywood’s triumph over a director’s independent vision also has a nice paean to ‘Star Trek,’ with its Scotty and Lt. Uhura. Herzog is great. In the 90 minutes, I was alternately bored by stuff that was trying to hard to be funny or was too broad (e.g., anything to do with the crypto-zoologist) and laughing uproariously. Hey, nobody told me that one of my faves, Jeff Goldblum, was in it. If they had taken Goldblum along on the crew of the Discovery IV, disaster would have been averted. Natch, the closing ‘Mod Squad’ type shot of the Discovery crew also reminded me of Buckaroo Banzai’s gang. You will really enjoy this at home on your tv. 3 cats”
Michael says: “There isn’t much you can say about this film without ruining it for others, and I highly recommend you go see it. Here’s the premise: A small film crew, working on a documentary on the life of director Werner Herzog get more than they bargained for while chronicling Herzog’s attempt to film a documentary on the Loch Ness Monster. And that’s all I’m going to say about the film itself.
“This highly entertaining and hilarious film is a multi-leveled film that bears a repeated viewing. Herzog is a fascinating subject, and I agree with Scot, surely a fascinating man to spend time with. 4 cats”
Scot says: “I’m not going to say much here. Just that this film borrows much from such fantastic works as WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, LOST IN LA MANCHA, and THE BL- … oh, I’ll just shut up.
“But I totally want to have Werner Herzog over for dinner (we’ll serve yucca root) and I’m rethinking my whole concept of the Chlotrudis documentary I wanna do. 5 cats”
Tom says: “Let me first start this by saying I was very disappointed that this film starred Warner Herzog, not baseball great Whitey Herzog.
“Incident at Loch Ness is a ‘mockumentary’ that follows Warner Herzog and his film crew on a search behind the myth of the Loch Ness monster. Now, I
don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie by Herzog, nor know that much about him, but the movie was still very accessible to me. I grew up loving ‘In Search
Of…’ and the ghost stories on the reality shows of the late 70s/early 80s like ‘That’s Incredible,’ so INCIDENT really brought back those old memories.
“As you may have heard, the less known about this film going in, the better. So I’ll just sum it up by comparing it to WAITING FOR GUFFMAN meets BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. It seems to be a real crowd pleaser.”
