Michael says: “The latest from Catherine Breillat is once again a fascinating fictional version of Breillat’s actual life. As in SEX
IS COMEDY, where Breillat recreated the filming of a particular scene from FAT GIRL, ABUSE OF WEAKNESS stars Isabelle Huppert as the stand in for the director who gets involved in an odd co-dependent relationship with a notorious con artist who she wants to star in her next film. Breillat exposes are part of her life that most would rather just forget, that of a woman taken advantage of after suffering a debilitating stroke. Huppert is fantastic portraying the director as driven and obsessive all the while suffering from both physical and mental hardships as a result of the stroke. Always provocative Breillat’s latest is definitely worth a look and some nominations. 4 cats”
