Diane says:
“More SIDEWAYS than MY DINNER WITH ANDRE, Michael Winterbottom’s THE TRIP has British actors Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon engaged in one-upmanship as they travel the North Country on a gastronomicaltour. The dialogue is not as profound or satirical as ANDRE (to which it’s been compared), nor as soulfully far-reaching as SIDEWAYS (to which I just compared it).
“Over incidental meals of the $1,000 foam kind, Coogan and Brydon do dueling imitations of Michael Caine and Sean Connery, commit sexual indiscretions or not, and get on each other’s nerves. It’s the kind of movie where actors play themselves, daring to be even more unlikeable than they really are. Caveat: my sister Janet dissed the film as ‘a movie in which the men make jokes and the women don’t.’ Funny while it lasts. And a good incentive to visit the North Country. 3 cats”
Toni
says: “I waited for an opportunity to laugh during this film and fell asleep after an hour…
“Was I missing something that both of the main characters were neither very compelling, intriguing, or as funny as I expected they would be.
“When there was a ‘joke’ it was dragged into the ground like the impressions. This film seemed to have an identity crisis similar to the characters portrayed in it. 2 cats”
