If the film’s plot and dialogue only equaled its visuals, it might have been the greatest film of the year. As it is, it is merely the prettiest. But that’s not such a bad thing. There are few directors today displaying even a fraction of director Tarsem’s visual acumen, or his ability to use every inch of the screen to create one vignette after another of eye-popping splendor.”
