Rob says: “Children’s show host and bastion of goodness Fred Rogers, the Presbyterian minister who became an American institution, is the subject of this wonderfully thorough and thoroughly wonderful tribute, made shortly after his death in February 2003. Hosted by Michael Keaton, who worked on the Pittsburgh-based public television staple in the 1970’s, the disc runs a hefty three hours, half of which is supplemental. While Rogers cracking tough girl Joan Rivers on two 1980’s ‘Tonight Show’ appearances is nice, his truest strength as a crusader of kindness comes during his 1969 appearance before Congress to defend against a spending cut. His turning of Rhode Island Senator John Pastore is a true ‘Mr. Smith’ moment, a testament to the power that this sweet, truth-talking sage possessed. Score: 5 cats“
