Chlotudis is pleased to welcome Mark Blane to the 30th annual Chlotrudis Awards Ceremony to accept the Buried Treasure award that his debut narrative feature, CUBBY, released in 2019, won in 2020. That year, the 26th annual Chlotrudis Awards Ceremony, became the only ceremony the organization had to cancel due to the pandemic before pivoting to virtual ceremonies for 2021 and 2022. Blane was schedule to attend in 2019, but the ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, was cancelled just days before the world shut down for months.
CUBBY is a lovely, coming-of-age story featuring a character who probably represents a whole lot of people out there who never see themselves on screen. The awkward anxious, regular human being. Blane reached out proactively during 2019 to let Chlotrudis know about his film, and his efforts paid off as it was embraced by the Nominating Committee, and ultimately got the votes to take the award.
This year’s Awards Ceremony will also honor acclaimed Japanese director, Hirokazu Koreeda, who will be inducted into the Chlotrudis Hall of Fame. Previous inductees include Philip Seymour Hoffman and Atom Egoyan. Koreeda will be interviewed on stage by former Boston Globe film critic, Ty Burr, who still reports on film and reviews movies. find him at Ty Burr’s Watchlist. The30th Annual Chlotrudis Awards Ceremony takes place on Sunday, March 17, 6pm at the Brattle Theatre. Tickets available at https://brattlefilm.org/special_events/chlotrudis-awards-30th-anniversary/.
