Michael says: “After scoring with their documentary THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE back in 2000, the writer/director team of Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato tackled narrative films with the slightly disastrous PARTY MONSTER in 2003 (okay, it grabbed a Best Supporting Actor nod for Seth Green). This year they redeemed themselves with the entertaining examination of the most notorious porn film in history, DEEP THROAT. INSIDE DEEP THROAT chronicles the making of the film and the subsequent political and social maelstrom that followed throughout the 70’s as conservative America ebbed and flowed with the reigning politics. The documentary shows how DEEP THROAT affected the careers of director Gerard Daminao, and the two
leads, Linda Lovelace and Harry Reams, as well as following the turbulent wake the film created in American society.

“Bailey and Barbato do a remarkably good job at reporting the facts without condemning either side of the debate (although their clever editing of interviews with involved parties, from the principals in the film to the prosecuting attorney does make it clear on which side their sympathies lay). Leaving the theatre I was again distressed at how conservative America has become, when a flash of Janet Jackson’s nipple can have such serious repercussions. 3 ½ cats
