CHLOTRUDIS SOCIETY HONORS DIRECTOR ATOM EGOYAN AT ANNUAL INDIE FILM AWARD CEREMONY
On Sunday March 18th, the Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film will honor the legendary Canadian director Atom Egoyan, during its 18th Annual Chlotrudis Awards ceremony at the historic Brattle Theatre. Mr. Egoyan will be in attendance to accept his special award from Chlotrudis to celebrate his achievements as a filmmaker. The show begins at 5 pm, and tickets are $20 ($15 for Chlotrudis and Brattle members), and can be purchased online at the Brattle’s website. Chlotrudis is honored to have Mr. Egoyan to Boston to bestow upon him its special Hall of Fame award, and to celebrate his influential and compelling filmography.
Atom Egoyan has been exploring the hows and whys of truth, identity, memory, fidelity and loss, through the medium of film for over three decades. After garnering several Chlotrudis nominations, including a Best Movie and Best Director nod for THE SWEET HEREAFTER in 1998, Atom was honored with a special Directing award by the Society. Often heralded for his unique visual style, his later films, WHERE THE TRUTH LIES and CHLOE have received Chlotrudis nods for Best Visual Design and Best Cinematography respectively. Atom’s films tackle difficult subjects, and ARARAT, one of his most epic films, showed up on several Chlotrudis members top films of the year lists for 2002.
Mr Egoyan has won numerous awards, including five at the Cannes Film Festival, two Academy Award nominations and eight Genie Awards, and has presided over film fest juries at Cannes, Berlin and Venice, as well as sat on other juries, including Sundance, Toronto, and Tribeca.
In further celebration of his films, the Brattle Theater will be screening several of Mr. Egoyan’s best-loved films over the same weekend, among them THE SWEET HEREAFTER, NEXT OF KIN and EXOTICA. Details are still being finalized at press time, including the possibility of Mr. Egoyan’s presence at one or more of the screenings.
