Nominations for the 23rd annual Chlotrudis Awards were finalized by the film group’s nominating committee this past weekend. Barry Jenkins’ stunning MOONLIGHT was dominant among the 47 films nominated, winning 8 nods, including Director and Cinematography. Placing second was LITTLE MEN, Ira Sachs coming of age film, which earned 6 nominations including Actor, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. This year, the Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film was thrilled to be able to present TANGERINE its three Trudies in person, at its 22nd Chlotrudis Awards ceremony, held at the Brattle Theater this past Sunday. The micro-indie film, shot entirely on iPhone, made a big impression on Chlotrudis members. Producer Darren Dean accepted the Trudy for Best Use of Music in a File, Radium Cheung (pictured left) graciously received his well-earned Best Cinematography award, and actress Mickey O’Hagan (pictured left) took home the Best Ensemble Trudy on behalf of the film’s cast. | Read more »
If it's spring in Boston, that means it's time for the Independent Film Festival of Boston. This year, Chlotrudis is co-presenting two films at the festival. MADE IN JAPAN is the remarkable story of Tomi Fujiyama, the world's first Japanese country, music superstar, and her dream to play the Grand Ol' Opry again. This doc, directed by Josh Bishop, is a funny yet poignant multi-cultural journey through music, marriage, and the impact of the corporate world on the dreams of one woman. The Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film this year spread the wealth, bestowing its Trudy awards among eleven films. However, a few movies stood out, foremost among them IDA, from director Pawel Pawilkowski, which won Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress. The Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film is pleased to join with the INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL OF BOSTON (IFFBoston) once again as a coprsenter as part of the festival’s 12th year. We are particularly pleased to have the opportunity to share in both the festival’s documentary and narrative wealths, by copresenting one of each this year.
Lucas Moodysson’s latest film, WE ARE THE BEST!, is about a teen punk band and has been heralded a comic coming of age masterpiece by international critics. Based on a graphic novel by Moodysson’s wife, the film is set in Stockholm in the 80’s, where two 13-year old girls band together to strike out in musical rebellion against all the obstacles in their teenaged life. | Read more »
Nominations for the 20th annual Chlotrudis Awards were finalized by the film group’s nominating committee last weekend, and will be publicly announced at a press reception at Post 390 in Boston’s Back Bay this Sunday. Splitting honors atop the heap with 4 nominations each were American indies featuring lead actress tours de force SHORT-TERM 12 and FRANCES HA, Sweden’s THE HUNT starring Mads Mikkelsen, and THE PAST, from acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi.
With the 20th annual Chlotrudis Awards only three months away, members of the independent film society have selected their Top 20 Movies About Movies to continue the countdown. Movie buffs love films about movies, and Chlotrudis members are no exception. Billy Wilder's classic 1950 film, SUNSET BLVD., about a hack screenwriter writes a screenplay for a former silent-film star who has faded into Hollywood obscurity tops the Chlotrudis list of the Best Movies About Movies, edging out Tim Burton's ED WOOD, a sweet look at the B-Movie director starring Johnny Depp and Martin Landau. This year, the Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film bestowed the most accolades upon Wes Anderson's MOONRISE KINGDOM and Stephen Chbosky's THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER at its 19th annual Chlotrudis Awards ceremony, held at the Brattle Theater this past Sunday. Both films won 3 awards:
Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Ensemble went to MOONRISE KINGDOM, while THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER nabbed Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (for Ezra Miller), and one of the night's top honors, Best Movie. | Read more »
BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD top Chlotrudis list with Seven Nominations Including Best Movie and Best Director!
The nominees for the 19th annual Chlotrudis Awards were announced tonight at a special party at Post 390, attended by Chlotrudis members, guests and various folk active in the Boston film scene. 2012 was a good year for American indie films, 18 of the 35 unique films nominated coming from the U.S. Those 18 films made up 41 of the total nominations. Films from Frances had the next largest impact with 7 nominations from 3 films, and surprisingly, Belgium took in 6 nominations with just 2 films. All-in-all, 19 countries were represented among the nominees. Despite the high number of U.S. films garnering nominations, only 2 of the films nominated for Best Movie was U.S.-made: BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD and THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER. | Read more »
